Too big and boxy.
1 Star Review   By MommyD on Lands\' End - Jan 25, 2013

I wear a size 14 in Land's End clothes and coats and was swimming in the Large of coat. There is no drawstring at the waist so it draped around me like I was wrapped in a down comforter and air can flow right up since it is so big on me. I don't doubt that it is warm, but I'm returning this one.

Great coat - too big
5 Star Review   By SamanthaCanada on Lands\' End - Jan 22, 2013

I love the coat but it is way too big for me. I am 5'5" and usually take medium size for clothing. I ordered the M coat as I thought it would be loose enough to allow layers underneath. However, the coat is way too big on me from everywhere, and I seem to be drowning in it. The S size is not available so I can't order that unfortunately I'll have to return the coat.

Much Nicer In Person
5 Star Review   By RNP on Lands\' End - Aug 8, 2012

I'm 5'0", 115 lbs and got this in a petite small. I think it fits great. The sleeves are perfect and the hem falls to my upper calf - with my winter boots, this coat gives me full coverage! It's roomy enough to layer underneath, but not too loose or baggy with just a t-shirt. Just the right amount of ease for a winter coat. I thought I might look like a walking sleeping bag, but the coat is actually pretty flattering on me - even a better look for me than the Land's End Shimmer down coat that I got last year. Love the three interior pockets, love the two-way zipper, love the imperial purple color. All in all, a great purchase and I'm glad I got it.

Too Big, Not Warm Enough
2 Star Review   By Dariya on Lands\' End - Jun 16, 2012

I am 5'7" and 125 pounds, and I live in northern Kazakhstan, near Siberia, and we get Siberia-like winters (It can get down to -40 degrees with super-fast winds). I walk 15 minutes to work, so good winter clothing is a must. I originally ordered this coat in a medium, which was way too large, so I exchanged it for a small. It is still way too roomy, yet the sleeves are too short. The cold air easily gets inside this coat, most likely because it's so big, and I have trouble keeping the ends of my arms warm. In milder weather (between 0 and -10º C -- between 32 and 14º F) it's okay; however, it's still quite bulky. I survive the winter by layering up immensely. However, the coat is a huge disappointment. I have co-workers who love their Lands End coats and say they don't have to layer up in -40 weather. Perhaps if it fit better it might be okay. For me, I can survive in it, but I will buy another coat. However, this coat ruined my Lands End experience, at least while shopping for coats for me. (My daughter's Lands End coat kept her perfectly warm, so I'm still buying coats for her from Lands End.)

The New Features Only Enhance This Cozy Coat!!
5 Star Review   By csrussian53 on Lands\' End - May 18, 2012

My mother gave me this coat two years ago. I only wore it twice this past winter but decided to wash it since I had several down vests and a jacket to wash. I tried to zip the zipper before washing and it wouln't zip. There were several women in the laundry room and each one tried to zip the zipper of my favorite down garment. Sadly, it was broken. I called Lands' End, the Customer Rep pulled up my mother's order history and found the coat. (As an aside: The Customer Service Rep was on the edge of being rude - my first experience with this at Lands' End.) I returned my coat with the broken zipper and received another. The new one has a two-way zipper which is much more substantial than the old zipper. Also, it is a slightly bigger fit. Don't get me wrong - it is not too big but just right for wearing sweaters, ThermaCheck jackets, etc. underneath it. The older version of this coat was more fitted on me. I love this one even more than the older version, though the older version served me well. Oh, I don't look like a puff ball in this coat as I do in so many other down vest, jackets, parkas, and coats. Best EVER down coat!

It fits perfectly and the color is beautiful. I ordered the teal
5 Star Review   By plb42345 on Lands\' End - Apr 28, 2012

I am so happy with this coat. I usually have a problem with sleeves being too long and this time I ordered a medium petite and it's perfect. Since Spring came early this year, I haven't had many occasions to wear it, but it's very warm and I know it will be great for next winter. I ordered a hat in the same color and I also love it too.

Perfect, just want I wanted!
5 Star Review   By Fliss on Lands\' End - Mar 23, 2012

Fits big, but that is what I wanted. I needed a coat that I could slip on over my pj's in winter , step in to my gumboots and go out in to the paddock and feed the horse on cold winter mornings. The length is good as it just clears the top of my boots. I'm 5' 10" and a size 18 and could probably have gotten away with a size Large but decided to go for the XL to give myself more movement. I don't like tight clothes. Even though it is big it still looks quite stylish. This coat is fantastic, it's just like wearing a sleeping bag. Toasty warm. I ordered the Black to hide horse slobber marks and it's a Smoky Black but that's fine by me it matches the dirt at my place. Delivery exceeded expectations arriving in Tasmania, Australia in just over a week of ordering. That's quicker than ordering something locally! Thank you Land's End I'm a very satisfied customer.

perfect down coat
5 Star Review   By rscheung on Lands\' End - Mar 23, 2012

i was looking to replace an older down coat. got the brown, it's a real deep, rich brown. beautiful color. i am 5'1/2" so the xs petite fit perfect. this falls 3" inches past the knee, beautiful invisible side pockets. not too small with fleece lining (a plus). 3 pockets on the inside (OMG, another plus....never had that option) was it is very light and was getting warm wearing this coat and trying the zippers and all, so i'm sure it will be a very warm coat. unfortunately, winter seemed to never come this year in NYC so i haven't had a chance to wear it outdoors.

Sorry but have returned the product as it was way too big - the product was great though. The service of Lands End was fantastic as we remembered. Hadn't brought anything from LE since about 1996 way before Kids and the Aussie dollar was so low through the years - we'll be back again. Regards

GREAT DOWN COAT!!!
5 Star Review   By ruby10pug on Lands\' End - Mar 10, 2012

I bought the other down coat with the exposed zipper and a little more fitted waist, but I took it back because I like the finishing and fabric on this one much better. I will tell you though, I usually always wear a PL ( did in the other one), but this one ran large, so I returned it for a PM-much better and more flattering fit. I usually wear a P12-14 and I am 5' tall. I like the covered zipper placket and the fact that the inside of the collar is not fleece. It is not as puffy looking as the photo. I think this is a FANTASTIC buy, even at full price!! Wonderful quality. The dusk black is not a TRUE black, but works fine with my black clothes (all). Looks just as good without the hood. The snaps to attach the hood are hidden in a very well constructed placket. You will not regret this purchase!!

Color and style are great, but did not fit well.
3 Star Review   By RMWells on Lands\' End - Mar 7, 2012

Everything about it is great except that it's really too big for me, although I always buy LARGE. It's really HUGE, not LARGE, and when I reluctantly went back to the site to reorder a MEDIUM, there were none left. So, I'm stuck with a coat I would love in a Medium, and will wear as a LARGE, but don't feel good in it.

Not bulky and very rich color
5 Star Review   By Natasha99 on Lands\' End - Mar 6, 2012

I bought this in purple and am very pleased with the color. It can be hard to tell what a color really looks like on a computer screen, and this coat's color is darker and richer than I expected (a good thing--I was worried it would scream PURPLE, but it's very tasteful) I like it that there are lots of pockets inside, and the main pockets are lined with a warm fleece material. This is a great coat for cold, dry weather (20 or below--I think I'd go for something more waterproof for wetter snow) .

Beautiful coat!
5 Star Review   By Karen321 on Lands\' End - Mar 5, 2012

I couldn't believe how beautiful the color of this coat is. It is more turquoise than a bright teal. I do not find the zipper is hard to use at all. The coat fits well and the only thing I did notice is that the sleeves are a little long on me. The hood fits great too. I love that the coat is nice and light. I am planning to wear this coat tomorrow as it's March and I know there won't be too many more cold days. I would highly recommend this coat.

Normally cannot buy plus size from regular size manufacturers but this actually fit beautifully! Was so surprised will try more of your plus size items. But you need to include length of tops in your descriptions. Eg. 27 in, 30in. Etc.

Just what the doctor ordered
5 Star Review   By CDUB on Lands\' End - Mar 3, 2012

I'm a working grandma who has to battle the elements in Chicago to get to work i.e. walking to bus stops, standing and waiting and this coat does an excellent job of protecting me. It's long enough to cover my knees and although it's lightweight, it keeps me warm while out in the cold and I don't sweat to death while riding on the bus! I'm glad I got it!!

AWESOME...I Love it
5 Star Review   By wisconsinlady on Lands\' End - Mar 3, 2012

This coat is perfect for Wisconsin winters when we actually get snow. Probably the warmest coat I've ever had. Looks professional for work. It feels like you are wrapped in a down comforter. Definitely runs to size but a bit big. I usually wear a 14 or 16 and the Large was a perfect fit with room to spare for a heavy sweater if needed. Not at all binding and easy to move in. I would definitely recommend this coat. Extremely happy. Bring on the cold weather!

Great hood if you don't need to see anything
1 Star Review   By victoriamck on Lands\' End - Feb 20, 2012

I want to smack whoever designed this coat!!! Really - Land's End is about function - I expect "not ugly" to be a bonus. I wanted a warm down coat with a hood - this is a TOTAL FAILURE!!! The hood, when simply filpped up - is like a prairie bonnet with blinders - six inches of zero visibility. Then, if you actually want to tightened the strings on the hood a little to prevent gale-force winds and be warm - the top of the hood is at your nose! You have a hole about 2 inches diameter to see through. This is so obvious a design flaw that it makes me want to never shop at Land's End again. Also, the sleeves are short and the cuffs are stupidly loose. Come on Land's End! $5.00 worth of fabric and some intelligent design could make this a good coat!

The color is great and the fit is just right. Nice light weight and warm too.
4 Star Review   By Gunda on Lands\' End - Feb 19, 2012

The overall quality is good though I do understand some people protesting the sleeve length. It isn't really the sleeve I think but the looseness of the knit cuff inside. The sleeve simply falls down if you raise your arm but the sleeve is long enough and I have long arms. Few feather have made their way out so far. A nice coat and good value for the price on sale!

Warm and cozy coat
5 Star Review   By vter4life on Lands\' End - Feb 19, 2012

I found this coat to be warm and cozy. I like the soft lining and the hood fits well - not too big or too small. My usual size is small or x-small. I ordered this coat in an x-small and it fits me well. I am 5'5" and about 120lbs. I received the order quickly. Thanks Lands End!

I love this coat! It is a good color, fits well enough, and keeps me warm!!
5 Star Review   By debrapowers on Lands\' End - Feb 19, 2012

I ordered this coat specifically to keep me warm for a trip to the snow in the mountains. It arrived quickly, even though I ordered it kind of close to my trip! It's a little on the big size as others have said, but I like that as I can wear layers underneath and not worry about fit. The teal blue is a little bright, but I have gotten many compliments on the color and so have not regretted my decision to order the teal blue. Best of all, this coat kept me very warm and the length kept my legs from being cold! It is true as advertised -- light weight for comfort! I definitely would recommend this coat to others!

This is a warm, comfortable, smart-looking coat
5 Star Review   By happyoldlady on Lands\' End - Feb 18, 2012

As a dog walker, I need a warm, wind-proof coat and this one fits the bill! The coldest wind does not cut through it and wet snow does not soak through it. What's more, after a long walk in wet snow or freezing rain, an hour hanging on the hook and the coat is completely dried out and ready for the next walk. My only criticism is the fit of the hood which falls down over my nose and completely obscures my vision. On the other hand, there are no cold draughts down my neck and even my face is kept warm. I'm delighted with the coat.

5 Star Review   By GLCMom on Lands\' End - Feb 18, 2012

This coat is so warm yet not bulky and hard to move in. It is perfect when waiting for the school bus or for a stroll through the city. The double zippers do take a little gettting use to, but nothing to lower the rating. No need to wish winter away with this great looking and comfortable coat.

Warm long coat
5 Star Review   By FridaKahlo on Lands\' End - Feb 18, 2012

I really like this coat. I agree with other reviewers, the fit is big, so I purchase the small petite (I am 5'4 and 120 lbs). It is large enough that even wearing winter clothes and sweater, the coat is roomy inside. A better fit for me could have been an XS regular? but because In purchase the item on sale, it was no longer available. I purchase the brown and the color is gorgeous. I also haven't had any problem with the feathers (haven't seen any yet). The coat is so warm I am no longer afraid of walking the dog when temperatures are in the 10s and 20s. I would recommend this coat if you leave in cold climates.

Good coat - some flaws
3 Star Review   By Izeve on Lands\' End - Feb 17, 2012

This coat runs big. I ordered it in Small and it was huge. So it went back and I got it in X-Small, which is comfortable even with a thick sweater. The sleeves are a tad too short in the X-Small (I am 5'6 and 135 lbs) but not to the point of not being able to wear it. Also, I am fairly broad in the shoulders with narrow hips and, surprisingly, I have plenty of room in the shoulders but I would prefer the hip area to be a bit wider (it's not exactly snug but I think the overall fit would be better if the hip area was roomier). Before I could wear it, I had to fix a pocket that was sewn together with another pocket causing it to bunch up. Now with that fixed, I have worn it a few times and like it. The Rich Brown is a nice deep brown shade.

Love this coat.
5 Star Review   By jep3257 on Lands\' End - Feb 17, 2012

I ordered a medium (10-12), which is my size, and I found the fit to be right on. It's roomy and can accommodate sweaters or other bulky clothing but without looking like you're swimming in it. The coat is nice and warm, and I like the material. In researching full-length down coats, I had read several negative comments about zippers, but I find the zipper in this coat works very well if you don't overthink it. I needed a full-length down coat for our unusually bitter cold winter and this one is perfect.

I absolutely love this coat - It is so warm especially since it is long. It fits wonderfully over other little jackets. I have been so thankful I got it since we've had some really cold weather in Nebraska lately.

The brown color is rich and the coat is definitely warm and I love the length.
4 Star Review   By DonnaKennedy on Lands\' End - Feb 13, 2012

The zipper does not line up evenly and takes some adjusting to get it going. I considered exchanging the coat but it sounds like numerous people have the same problem. Otherwise, it is a wonderfully warm coat.

Finally a coat cut for a queen not a princess
5 Star Review   By Ellouise on Lands\' End - Feb 12, 2012

This is the only storm coat I have been able to find that does not have a tapered, princess waist. What are the manufactureres thinking? Not all women are built with narrow waists. This coat is just what I have been looking for. It is lightweight and fits great. I wear a size 14 and got a large. The silky lining makes it fit nicely over fleece or sweaters. The website can be confusing because there is another down chalet coat with a tapered waist and no zipper covering. I found this in overtocks at the same price. It has a flap over the zipper and has a straight cut. We haven't has much frigid weather this winter but so far it's been great.

Attractive down coat!
4 Star Review   By gmabarb on Lands\' End - Feb 9, 2012

So far I`m really pleased with this chalet coat; I say this because it has been so mild here this winter that I haven`t really had a chance to test it out in cold enough weather. That is why I`m not giving it a 5 rating. However, it really is an attractive coat, and the medium size is plenty big enough for me to wear a mid-weight sweater underneath. Also, it is long enough to come well below my knees on my almost 5`7`` frame. The zipper is a bit of a challenge, but I like that it also has the cover and snaps....and hood!

Lightweight and very warm
5 Star Review   By PassionForFashion on Lands\' End - Feb 8, 2012

I bought this coat a week ago and am very pleased with my purchase. I wasn't sure it would be warm enough because it was so lightweight. It has passed the test of single digit temps in Wisconsin. I like the two-way zipper and the snaps. The bottom of the sleeve also has a knit band to keep the cold air from blowing up the sleeve. I would strongly recommend this coat. I wish there had been more colors to choose from in my size but it is the end of the season. The fit was perfect; still room for a sweater underneath. The sleeve length was also perfect. I usually buy a size 16 so large was just right. Be sure to consult Landend size chart.

Like having a portable duvet!
5 Star Review   By DianainVictoria on Lands\' End - Feb 8, 2012

I love this coat. It's really like being able to wrap yourself up in the duvet off the bed and then wander around in it! The coat is roomy enough for a sweater if necessary and the knee length means no frozen thighs or buns. It's lightweight but warm, and the fleecy cuffs and pockets are a great touch. The zippers on the outside pockets are a bit dainty (especially considering the heavy-duty main zipper) and likely hard to zip if you're wearing heavy gloves or mittens, but they are discrete so if you have them zipped closed they are nearly invisible. The imperial purple colour is a dark rich purple - think Welch's grape jelly in the jar (as opposed to spread on bread) which I quite like. The hood is deep - blocks some peripheral vision, but I reckon it would keep your head nicely protected in a storm. I almost winter lasted longer here so I could wear it more.

The jury's still out on this coat.
4 Star Review   By losangelesesq on Lands\' End - Feb 7, 2012

Last year, I was coveting so many down coats when it was cold, and I was delighted to find this chalet coast in Imperial Purple on sale. But -- we've had a warm spell, and I haven't had a chance to wear it! It seems to fit well enough over a light layer. I'm glad it has interior cuffs on the sleeves, but I wonder how well the fleece will wear, as well as the fleece pockets. (I generally wear gloves, so I use pockets to carry things, and the I fear the fleece will stretch or wear out) I read reviews about the down coming out, and it is a little, but the coat is just hanging in the closet for now. Time will tell. The Imperial Purple looked very purple online, but the coat itself is nearly black so it's not as bright and colorful as I'd hoped, but the color isn't a deal-breaker.

Favorite Frigid Weather Coat
5 Star Review   By Bungalowmom on Lands\' End - Feb 7, 2012

I happily grab this coat at various times throughout the winter. This is my third winter with the long chalet in my closet. I have had no issues with the coat other than occasionally I can't get the zipper to align & it takes me a few seconds to get the zipper started (which is something I've noticed with other Lands End coat zippers). I chose the coat in black to go with everything, and because it seemed dressier. Just this morning my daughter had an early practice, so instead of getting all dressed, I threw on the long chalet and some boots. My daughter said "You are wearing that because it covers your pajamas, aren't you?" It does cover my pajamas AND it keeps me warm as well. It's a great cold weather coat. You feel snuggly warm wrapped up in the long down. It's not as sleek as other down coats (is more puffy), but I have read reviews that some of those other more expensive long down coats aren't as warm as expected (even though they are more lightweight which is appealing). I feel the Chalet coat is very warm and I haven't had troubles with wind cutting through it either. I'd highly recommend it to anyone seeking a long down coat. It's very long so some people who are under 5 foot 5" might want to try it on to see how they like the look.

This coat is so comfortable

WAY too big
2 Star Review   By kpw2001 on Lands\' End - Feb 6, 2012

Bought this in Petite XS for my sister who is 5'3", 100 lbs. Did not believe it when she said it was too big and made her look awful. I bought the Essential coat in Petite XS (for my mom) and the Shimmer coat in Petute XS for myself and they fit perfectly. I'm 5'0", 95 lbs. Saw it for myself. The Chalet coat was HUGE. The sleeves are way too long and the body so big that it looks like she's wearing a potato sack. Definitely does not compliment her slim figure. I think the coat was mislabelled or irregular. Returning it ASAP! No comment on whether it was warm or not since my sister refused to wear it.

Great Coat!
5 Star Review   By Valrisue on Lands\' End - Feb 6, 2012

I love this coat! It is well made and a great value. I wear this coat when I go walking with my dogs when it is very cold and I stay plenty warm and comfortable. I've ordered and sent back long down coats from two other stores because of their poor quality, but this one is a keeper!

Really great coat!
5 Star Review   By JenRobichaud on Lands\' End - Feb 6, 2012

The coat runs a little large but because I had 'chatted' with very helpful online staff I ordered the right size for me (M 10-12). The coat is very comfortable and not too bulky or puffy. It keeps me warm and cozy while commuting by bus in the morning and walking home in the evening. I love the fleece inside the collar and especially the inner cuffs they are perfect in every way, they keep cold out but are not bulky and don't get in the way of my mittens. My only disappointment is the pockets. I like that the outer pockets have zippers but they are too small/shallow and I've had hat and mittens fall out. Also, instead of so many inner pockets I would really like to have an additional outer pocket at chest height to tuck bus tickets and my iPod into - the inner pockets are not terribly useful if you need to get to them quickly or once you're all bundled up. Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase and would highly recommend this coat.

Love this coat
5 Star Review   By BrittanyT on Lands\' End - Feb 5, 2012

I needed a warm, long coat that would also keep the rain off for outside duty at school. In our area, you never know what the weather will be from one day to the next. This coat is perfect. It does everything that I had hoped and more! I looked at many others before deciding on this one,and I am very glad I did.

THE perfect cold-climate winter coat
5 Star Review   By FrozenTundraGirl on Lands\' End - Feb 5, 2012

I've worn this long down baby for several winters now and, I love it. Truly. I've waited at bus stops in minus 20-degree temps in this wonderful down coat while remaining warm & cozy. Plus, it's pretty. What more* can one want?! ~~~ *(Well, just one suggestion, Lands' End: the hood needs a bit of redesign so it doesn't come down so far on the face...)

I have a brown one that I've worn for 6 yrs. My coat still looks good and is my favorite to toss on for shopping or walking the dog because it's warm and light weight. I wear this coat all the time. I thought it's time for another and I was not disappointed. I bought the turquoise and l really like the color. I'm sure that I'll also wear it for many years to come.

Love it
5 Star Review   By Alamelu on Lands\' End - Feb 5, 2012

I was a little skeptical at first, since I'm short and relatively plump, I didn't want to look like the Michelin man. However, this looked great! I had first purchased a large, which I had to exchange for a medium, and it actually looks slimmer on me than most coats do. It is lightweight, which is great for me. I love the fact that it has a zipper and buttons. When it isn't too cold, I use the buttons and reserve the zipper for the arctic days. Best of all, it keeps me warm, and that's not something I'd say for all coats, down or otherwise.

Everything, fit- style -warmth good!
4 Star Review   By Mary1947 on Lands\' End - Feb 4, 2012

This coat is wonderful. I was worried about the down coat being too bulky looking - but not so. Ottawa winters can be brutally cold and humid and windy. This coat worked like a charm. I got the size large and it fits fine, allowing me enough room to where sweaters underneath. I got it on sale and the only colour available was black - but I love it.

Warm and Chic
5 Star Review   By JaySue on Lands\' End - Feb 4, 2012

After reading the helpful reviews, I ordered a Regular XS. (I am 5 ft. 3 in. and weigh 109 lbs.) This was a perfect fit for me! The coat itself is lightweight, warm, comfortable, and stylish. This coat afforded the room for extra layering which I find necessary during the cold winter months. It is the perfectly complement to my dark brown Powder Run Lands' End fur-lined boots. Where do I wear it? To Church and grocery stores. I wear it when I power-walk. It is a "wear it anywhere coat." I am very pleased with my purchase.

FABULOUS COAT: lightweight but toasty warm--gorgeous color, perfect fit. My new favorite!
5 Star Review   By PTubbs on Lands\' End - Feb 4, 2012

GORGEOUS COLOR...so wonderful to have a "winter" color palette selection! I just adore this coat...my new favorite. It's great to have is a zipper plus snaps, but no velcro--loved my previous Lands End coat except for the velcro that would always snag my scarves. This one is perfect. I love the fit, the length, the warmth...especially nice is the super-soft lining in the pockets. Speaking of pockets, who needs a purse, with all the inner pockets? The detachable hood design also is a nice touch, although I like it attached. This coat is a real winner!

My second Chalet Down Coat.......
5 Star Review   By AMF10003 on Lands\' End - Feb 4, 2012

I bought my first one when it came out the very first time... years ago. It was a very cold snowy winter in New York.... Of and on through the years I used it when the temps went deep down..... and between the years had also owned non-down coats... but always went back to my Lands End Black Chalet Down!!! Just so lightweight and warm! This winter, January, 2012, I decided to purchase another one in petite brown ... and yes, it is slightly shorter and to me just right..... Material seems better or its just the material of the older coat has gone through its time..... Anyway, this Chalet Coat is worth the money you pay for... Through the years, I've had co-workers ask me about my down coat... and they've bought their own Lands End Chalet Coat......

I love this coat! Do wear layers underneath if it's really cold.
5 Star Review   By NanfromSF on Lands\' End - Feb 4, 2012

I literally read every other review before I got the coat, so I will tell you how my review compares. I agree that the coat runs big. I am 5' 1'' tall and weigh about 122 lb. I generally wear about a 6 petite, which would usually be a small petite for coats. I ordered the extra small petite and it fit great with room underneath for layers. The length came down to my upper calves. I thought I might like to add a piece of velcro to fasten the coat at the bottom to have even more protection. I bought this coat because I was traveling to Buffalo and North Western PA where the winters are cold, and the jackets that work for me in my home of San Francisco aren't enough for real Winter--basically, I was really afraid of being cold. I also bought myself a pair of snow boots (not Lands End). I was comfortable walking around for more than an hour outside, when the temperature was between 5 and 25 degrees Fahreneit, when I wore the coat with some layers underneath. I wore medium weight pants, long underwear on my legs, a turtleneck shirt, a light fleece sweater, and a Land's End fleece shirt, underneath the coat, and scarf, hat and gloves and the boots or walking shoes. Oh, and leg warmers. I didn't want to be cold and I am normally cold blooded, so all of that layering really worked for me to be happy. I have found that I can wear the coat at home in San Francisco when it is our normal 50 degrees outside, without many layers underneath. And it will be great for a windy, foggy day watching the SF Giants play baseball at AT&T Park. I feel as if I have guaranteed warmth. I haven't worn it in rain a lot, but when I have it has worked so far to keep me dry. Also, the coat is attractive. I got the dark purple color; it is a muted purple, not garish. I had no trouble operating the zippers.

Very Winter Chic!
5 Star Review   By JaySue on Lands\' End - Feb 1, 2012

Based on the helpful reviews, I ordered this in a size regular XS. I am 5ft. 3 in. and weigh 110 lbs. When the package arrived, I could hardly believe that a coat was packed inside as the box was incredibly light. Nice surprise! The XS is a perfect fit and length. I think it looks very chic with my matching dark brown Lands' End Powder-Run boots which I purchased in Chicago right after Christmas (great sale...Woo-Hoo). The two are the perfect solution for wintertime warmth. I always dress in layers in especially cold weather, and I had no problem with feeling cramped in my new stylish coat. I have discovered a very few tiny pieces of white down on the front of the coat but it does not seem to be problematic. I have worn my Chalet coat to church as well as when I power-walk. I really am very happy with my purchase. I was even happier when I was able to apply the $15 coupon to the coat that I had received with my former purchase of an adorable Starfish top. Thanks, Land's End for quality products and excellent customer service.

Zippers are still a problem for this product
5 Star Review   By 45parallelchef on Lands\' End - Feb 1, 2012

I bought the same style coat from Land's End seven years ago. It is wonderful in every way except the zipper. Please redesign the zipper for better quality and reliability. I ordered another coat this year, simply because it is so useful and warm, and washes well. I was sad that the zipper has not been upgraded. The new coat was even more difficult to zip. I returned it.

Not what it used to be
3 Star Review   By shortondown on Lands\' End - Jan 25, 2012

I ordered this coat this Christmas to replace my trusty Landsend Chalet Coat I've worn through 7 or 8 New York City winters since it's starting to get a bit ratty. But the new one just didn't seem the same. It appeared to be much thinner, much less down, and wasn't nearly as warm as my old one. I wore it out on an errand one evening in December in San Diego and had a chill the whole time. So I returned it, very disappointed that I won't be able to rely on Landsend anymore for the warmest, most affordable coat around. I've been searching for a replacement, and really haven't found one. Come back old faithful, come back! In terms of sizing, I'm having a hard time with Landsend coats. I'm a tall size 4, so Smalls are too big and XS doesn't quite work either -- sleeves too short and in need of a bit more space.

Great coat for the price
4 Star Review   By EMM3773 on Lands\' End - Jan 25, 2012

First of all, be aware that this coat fits big! I am 5'4" 115 lbs and a petite XS is roomy on me. Shoulders and arm length is great, I think the idea is that you may want to wear a heavy sweater underneath. Love the dark brown color, love the three interior pockets (two zippered, one for cellphone), love the length (just at the knee), love the fleece lining, love the toasty but not constrictive collar, love the hood -- it stays in place without being tight, and you can tighten it up even more on a very windy day. Surprisingly warm for how light it is ... I live in Toronto, and it keeps me warm even on the chilliest days. What would have made this coat five stars is a bit more shape around the waist. It goes straight up and down, which is not flattering. However, that said, it's a great coat for the price.

Perfect for cold Chicago winter
5 Star Review   By hazelgreen on Lands\' End - Jan 25, 2012

I bought this while on sale and am so glad I did. I've been wearing this the past several weeks, in temperatures ranging from 35 to 7 degrees or lower with the wind chill. I have not been cold once. Today I actually was warm while walking at lunch (it's about 34 degrees out) and had to take off my gloves. I have a shimmer down coat, and while I like that, I've had problems with feathers. This coat has none of those issues, not one feather has escaped, I'm happy to say. It does run big, the medium was huge on me, so I returned for a small which fits perfectly. I'm 5'5 and about 155 pounds. The length is maybe about 6 inches or so below my knees. I would actually prefer it to be a teeny bit longer, but it's not a dealbreaker. It's also nice to not feel like a big marshmallow walking around like I did with my old down coat. Love this coat!

Great Long Coat!
4 Star Review   By Topaz581 on Lands\' End - Jan 25, 2012

Great long coat! I had been looking for a long down coat after loosing 70 lbs. But I didn't want to spend too much since, by this time next year, it might be too big! But living in NY I still need a warm coat to get me through this winter. I LOVE this coat! It's light weight yet very warm! I received it when we had 20 degree weather. I wore it with a turtle neck and it was great. The next day it was 40 degrees yet I wasn't so hot that I was uncomfortable. I am 5'8" and this coat has a great length, hitting me mid calf. The zipper is great because it only goes down part way so it's easy to zip and it unzips from the bottom so when you sit you don't stress the zipper. There are snaps you can use to keep your legs warm. The coat has a great warm collar that can zip up all the way up. And there is a detachable hood with toggles. The coat has some great inside pockets so if your need to run quick to the market you don't need to take a purse, if your so inclined. Runs a bit big through the waist. Downside: Hip pockets are warm but a bit small for my taste. I got the purple which is lovely! Great coat for work and play! Highly recommend!

1 Star Review   By RachelBuck on Lands\' End - Jan 24, 2012

Although this coat has several merits (I will say that the color of this coat "Rich Brown" is luscious). alas it has VERY shallow pockets, only about an inch deep below the slotted opening. I have no interest in owning a coat in the pockets of which my gloves are not safe, particularly a coat intended for the coldest weather..This is such a critical factor that it renders the coat without value to me. It also seems very heavy for a coat which is supposed to be made of down. weighing about half again as much as a down coat the same size that I already own. I will be sending it back,. sigh.

Finally, a warm down coat without fleece!
5 Star Review   By BethannT on Lands\' End - Jan 23, 2012

I looked a long time for a down coat that could be washed and had no fleece lining. This one is of a super-soft material ,even feels soft on my neck, doesn't make crinkle noise and is very warm. It's a tiny bit large, but that's OK; from my experience with the Dory jacket it will probably shrink a bit after a few washings. I have three pets that shed, and pet hair tends to stick to fleece, and fleece linings also pill occasionally after washing. Also, if a coat without lining gets wet, it's still warm, and it dries quickly. To the reviewer who complained about the lack of lining - get the essential down coat or one of the others - and leave this one for me.

Coat is very warm and comfy, but fit is a bit big.
5 Star Review   By cyclonefan95 on Lands\' End - Jan 23, 2012

I love how toasty this coat is. It really stops the wind and does the trick for winter recess duty and cold walks from the parking lot for college ball games. My husband's freezing, but I am warm. It is comfy and the hood is great. Three inside pockets keep a cellphone, keys, lipstick, etc. handy, and the red color is very pretty. Bright but not fire engine bright. I ordered XL to have room for a sweatshirt or sweater under the coat - I hate tight fitting coats - but wouldn't have had to with this one. It has plenty of room for a warm layer underneath so don't order up a size. I'm keeping it anyway because it is just so darn warm.

5 Star Review   By JustineP on Lands\' End - Jan 23, 2012

The coat is warm and the quality is very good for the price. The only thing I would change is that I would lengthen the sleeves slightly. My coat is a small (6-8) and it fits beautifully, however, if I lift my arms (for example - while driving) the sleeves are slightly shorter than I would like and leave a gap between the end of the sleeve and the top of my glove.

down chalet coat
3 Star Review   By CoffeeLover on Lands\' End - Jan 22, 2012

was looking for a long coat to keep me warm while walking the dog. This seems to do a decent job. The length of this coat is nice, but would be better if you could fasten it all the way to the bottom. Since there is a two way zipper, it should go to the bottom and then let you determine how far to unzip that end. Or at least put a snap at the bottom. It does at least keep my thighs warmer than the parka length coat I had been wearing, but would keep more of me warmer if I could keep it closed at the bottom. I think the fit is pretty true to size.I wear a 8-10 and bought this in a Medium. It's roomy, but needs to be to fit the layers you'll need to keep you warm. The -35 degree rating they give it is a joke. I wore it in the low 20's over a turtle neck and fleece jacket, and felt comfortable. Luckily we don't get -35 degree weather here, so I should be ok with the layers. The fleece lined pockets are nice. I thought the hood worked well. overall a decent coat for the sale price, but definitely not as warm as advertised.

I am neat and warm
5 Star Review   By joanofnyc on Lands\' End - Jan 21, 2012

I thought I was ordering a boring black down coat with hood, to keep me warm. But what do you know? I received compliments on it, because somehow, although I really toss it all over and am hard on it, it looks crisp. (My girlfriend said it was such a vibrant black; my fashionable Chicago cousin wants to get one.) I've run into a few other women (one in the elevator of my building!) who also have the coat and swear by it. I'm 5'2", petite/overweight, and wear an LE XL. It was a bit roomy, just a bit, but I'd prefer that to looking like a sausage. The length to mid-calf is a godsend since we walk so much in this city. I read many reviews of LE coats that leaked down. No problem with this one that has a wonderful set of pockets inside and out and a hood that fits just right and shielded me today from the first real snowfall of winter.

The perfect winter coat!
5 Star Review   By StephanieRL on Lands\' End - Jan 21, 2012

It is well made, soft and comfy! I ordered the petite large and it was still roomy even with two layered tops (but I don't like tight fitted things.) I bought this coat mainly as a recess coat since it gets super cold here in the NW. I use to go home and wrap my legs in a blanket to defrost, now I am protected thoroughly from the frigid cold temperatures and winds that whip through the school yard. This coat is a must have for teachers who have outside duty as it allows room to move and covers so nicely. I recently wore it during our snow storm and found myself removing some items because I was so warm... haven't done that with another coat before!

I love the color and I can't wait to wear the coat. It does run slightly large, but it's great if I have to layer.
5 Star Review   By barb304 on Lands\' End - Jan 21, 2012

The coat seems to run a little big, but that's ok in case I need to layer. The quality is just what I expect from from Land's End. I haven't worn the coat yet, but I can't wait to.

Love it! It is lightweight, but warm. I love the fleece at the wrists, keeps drafts out. Also, love that it can zip up so high, to keep drafts off

Arrived Just in Time
5 Star Review   By SherryLee on Lands\' End - Jan 21, 2012

The coat arrived just in time. Long Island has been warm for winter, until today and a snow storm blew in over night. The coat arrived today and I tried it out in the cold bitter night air. Very toasty and light weight too. I probably could have ordered a size smaller, but my thinking was with big bulky sweaters, I'd probably want it a size bigger. The coat is so warm though, I don't know that I will need a big bulky sweater (I do have long underwear on though). Well made. At first I didn't think it had any pockets, as they are tailored nicely and flat. I like that they have zippers too, so I won't lose my gloves. The hood and collar are snug and warm too. Great price, now that it is on sale. Zipper is a little tricky.

very warm and comfortable
4 Star Review   By LHMV on Lands\' End - Jan 21, 2012

I bought this coat intending it as an occasional coat for outdoor sporting events, but as soon as it arrived, I've found myself choosing it over my shorter, everyday winter coat, because it is so comfortable and lightweight, and am very pleased with the performance in the 17 degree temps we had last week.

Perfect coat for a dogmom!
5 Star Review   By MindyP on Lands\' End - Jan 21, 2012

This is a perfect coat for any golden retriever owner who knows they will spend a fair amount of time outside in the winter. It's warm and comfortable and the cut is true to sizing. The only draw back is that the outside pockets are small and hard to access.

I had one previously which I love, and purchased another one because I expected it to be of the same quality. It is not as warm.
3 Star Review   By FrancesAAS on Lands\' End - Jan 21, 2012

I expected the same quality. It is not as warm as the first one I had. I do not know why the label seems to say it is made with the same stuffing, however it cannot be, because it is less warm and thinner. You can tell it is less quality. I am disappointed.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this coat!
5 Star Review   By Pinballwzrdz on Lands\' End - Jan 21, 2012

I ordered this coat as my "school bus stop" coat. Now while waiting for my child's bus, I am toasty warm. The coat is even longer than I had anticipated (I'm only 5'2") but I am glad I ordered the regular size. I think the petite would have felt too small in the sleeves (I like a longer sleeve). I love that the pockets and sleeve ends are lined in a super soft fleece, what a nice feature. The double zipper offers flexibility, and the extra snap at the bottom helps keep leg drafts out. I can't say enough about hits coat. I LOVE IT! The price was great (I bought on sale later in the season) and I can't imagine the more expensive coats from other brands are any better. I also like that it is not super puffy so I don't feel like a giant marshmallow, yet it still completely warm. I definitely recommend this coat!

Awesome but does run big!
5 Star Review   By anonymous1971 on Lands\' End - Jan 21, 2012

I normally wear an XS regular or S regular depending on the coat. I am 5 foot 3.5 and 120 lbs. (34B chest) I I tried this coat in a S regular in the store and it looked horrible. It was soooo big and long, it looked like I was wearing a sleeping bag. I found it on clearance online and I wanted black but the only XS available was a petite XS which I never order. I took a chance on the petite but was worried about the sleeve length etc. I received it today and I LOVE IT! It is a couple inches past my knee. The sleeves are fine. I can wear a thick sweater under it if I wanted to and it does not look like a sleeping bag. It looks great. I wish the pockets were deeper but for the deal I got on this, the pockets are trivial. I bought a different coat from Lands End last year in a S regular that was so tight in the neck, I couldn't zip it up all the way so I just wore a scarf. When I ordered the Chalet this week, the customer service rep told me they would give me a refund for the coat I bought last year! When I got my new coat today, I took my old one to a Land's End Inlet where I was given a full refund. I don't know of any other company with that kind of confidence in their products.

Great Practical Coat
5 Star Review   By Renalyn on Lands\' End - Jan 21, 2012

This is a really warm practical coat. Like the soft lined cuffs. Hood is great. I chose my regular size and it still fits over a suit. Very lightweight. Quality great. Small pieces of feather land on my clothes the odd time but this happens with many down coats. Zipper a challenge the first day but no problem since.

Warm and nice looking.
5 Star Review   By MicheleSB on Lands\' End - Jan 21, 2012

I bought this coat in teal. The picture does not do justice to the colour, however. The blue is brighter, more turquoise rather than teal. The coat is well-constructed and warm. I had many positive comments on how it looked the first day I wore it.

good purchase
4 Star Review   By mc884 on Lands\' End - Jan 21, 2012

I had read the other reviews that said this coat ran large so i ordered a size down accordingly & it was just right. typically I wear a small (2-4) and I ordered an xs. So far this coat seems to have done the trick and I am always freezing! i live in michigan and our temperatures just dropped so I tested it out on a 9 degree day..I did wear a light fleece underneath but never even got a little chilly and I spent a good 1/2 hour outside. I was skeptical because it is considerably lighter than my 700 down jacket that I wanted to replace. If you are debating..just try it, I think you will be pleased. It would be nice if it had a faux fur hood trim, but I'm hoping I can add that myself.

Fits well, warm
4 Star Review   By Kurtz on Lands\' End - Jan 21, 2012

I got this coat for winter weather in Michigan and I am happy with it. I wear it to walk my dog as well as any other outside activities or trips. In really cold wind, I need a wool sweater under it to keep the arms warm, but the length is great. I ordered a Medium after reading the reviews. I'm 5'8", size 10 and never know whether to get a large or medium in coats. The Medium fits me well. The zipper works well and this is important. My last coat went into the trash because the zipper did not work. The only thing I don't like about the Chalet coat is the hood. It's too big and falls in my face. I have to mash it down in the back and wear a scarf around it to keep it in place. I think one or more reviewers complained that the feathers came out, but. I have seen no evidence of that so far. I recommend this coat for people who want an affordable down coat for really cold weather.

excellent coat
5 Star Review   By Choon on Lands\' End - Jan 21, 2012

I bought this coat five years ago and I have used it every day during the winter months. I live in Canada and our Canadian winters are very cold. This coat has served me well, it is warm and light. It has stood the test of time and still looks new. I bought the same coat for the second time recently even though my first coat is still in good condition; i am doing this just in case Lands End will not carry this coat in the near future. I highly recommend this coat.

Coat is wonderful.
5 Star Review   By Angie63 on Lands\' End - Jan 20, 2012

I traveled throughout Europe over the holiday and this coat was wonderful. It kept me warm through Minnesota sub-zero weather, the cold damp weather of Denmark, Sweden,Germany, France and wind of NYC. I bought this uncertain if it would be my "go to" coat. I was amazed something so light weight could stand up to all the weather I faced. I love the deep pockets and opted not to carry a purse. The length kept the cold air out. It's look is up to date with todays puff coat style and I wore it even to a Michelin star restaurant proudly. I'm not known for recommending things but felt compelled to put it out there when I returned home to -31 degree weather.

Love it!
5 Star Review   By Windycitygirl on Lands\' End - Jan 19, 2012

I ordered the coat in a medium and it was huge, so reordered it in a small, and I love it. I wish LE would have a measurement chart for outerwear, it would have saved some time and money. The return was easy, I just brought it back to the LE outlet store. Yes, the zipper can be tricky, but all double zippers are tricky. It just takes some practice. This coat delivers great quality at a reasonable price. Thanks LE!

Perfectly functional !
5 Star Review   By savvy99 on Lands\' End - Jan 19, 2012

Ordered this, The Essential Down and the Shimmer Down Coat in quest of a perfect down coat. Liked the Shimmer Down coat more than this initially, but the feathers started leaking after the first wear and the zipper was getting irksome. Well then what, went back to this one and tried it again. Given the pretty cold weather in Chicago, this seems more functional now because this long coat nicely covers the knees and looks good too. No frills and fancies, yet perfectly warm and toasty. Could do with a little more style though. Wish Land's End could stock more choices at the Sear's stores so we can try them out first, feel bad ordering online and returning them.

DON'T CHANGE A THING...PERFECT JUST THE WAY IT IS!
5 Star Review   By frozenstiff on Lands\' End - Jan 16, 2012

Great fit with enough room to raise my arms and wear a fleece under it, light weight but warm, warm, warm. The length covers my arthritic knees, I'm 5'6" and no longer slender by any means, but this coat doesn't make me look, nor feel, like the Michelin man. I purchased the dusty black color and am more than pleased with it, just makes me question why it took me so long to finally own one.

Love the coat!
5 Star Review   By PeggyMc on Lands\' End - Jan 14, 2012

I am very happy with this coat. I did have to return the first one because it runs large. It's perfect for the freezing weather we have been having here in Chicago. It's great that it is not at all bulky. My only objection is the hood. It is way too big. I have to fold it back in order to see anything. Other than that, I love the coat.

Overall a great winter coat
4 Star Review   By triplecee on Lands\' End - Jan 14, 2012

I'm so glad I ordered this coat. I love the length. It's casual, but not too sporty. The fleece lined cuffs and pockets are a nice touch. I'm glad I read the reviews before ordering, because I ordered a size down and it fits perfectly. The only thing I would change would be to make the sleeves just a little longer, even just 1/2". I'm looking forward to seeing how warm it is once the cold weather comes.

I absolutely love this coat!
5 Star Review   By lissy52 on Lands\' End - Jan 14, 2012

Perfect for blustery and cold days, especially the early am and late pm walks with the dog! It is lightweight and warm all the way down my legs, around my arms and neck, and head. The hood is the best fitting I've ever had - usually they are too big. I ordered the XL because I wanted to wear lots of layers with it but it was too big. So when visiting family in Milwaukee I went to the LE Inlet and exchanged it for a L which fit beautifully, even with a bulky fleece on!

Good fit, not bulky, fleece-lined cuffs and pockets
5 Star Review   By Zelly on Lands\' End - Jan 14, 2012

What a good buy! This coat is well made, fits well, goes from under my chin to my boot-tops so it serves especially well when the weather is very windy as well as very cold. Again, what a good buy!
