Great - for a beginner and good for smaller hands
5 Star Review   By RenoGal on B&Q - Aug 18, 2014

I've had this drill about 6-12mnths now and I love it. Its the first one I have owned so I cant compare against others. I bought it as if felt well build while being one of the lightest and most comfortable in a gal size hands - others just felt they would get too heavy. The second handle grip assists with strength and stability or in difficult angles- again good for those not strong or less experienced. I find the batteries last for absolutely ages - I can often go several days on one battery unless doing something heavy duty like masonry or consistent usage. With two batteries its easy you just plug in the other one and put that one on charge. Simple to change, simple to use. All the tradies and blokes that I work with are all impressed with it. My only gripe - and it could be user inexperienced error is that the chuck sometimes loosens mid drill and i have to tighten it before it goes out of kilter. I got it in sale so it was great value with 2 batteries and charger. Have so far been impressed with all the JCB products I have purchased.

4 Star Review   B&Q

Shame it doesn't come with any accessories apart from one screwdriver bit but I have several collections. I have only used it so far to drill into hard wood to repair a garden seat but it did the job. It was purchased to replace another drill with two battery packs which no longer hold a charge. These battery packs charged well and to have two is a bonus, as is the fact there is a light to tell you when it is charged.. The unit is light and easy to handle which is good for a person of increasing years - maybe that should be decreasing years - but a good tool like this certainly helps!

Excellent quality drill. Very good price.
5 Star Review   By Luke28tv on B&Q - Jul 19, 2014

My father in law bought one of these a few months ago, I used it to completely board out his large loft space + a few other smaller jobs. It always worked perfectly and never struggled. I just moved into a house that needs a complete renovation. I own a corded drill but it's very cumbersome and time consuming to get out and setup for the smaller jobs, so needed a cordless drill. I always do my research when buying a product like this and found 4 drills that I would consider. A Bosch, a Mikita, a Dewalt and a JCB. This is a 20v the other 3 are 18v. The Dewalt has a 1 year warranty, Bosch 2 years, Mikita 3 years and the JCB a 5 year warranty. This was the second heaviest but it doesn't feel heavy to use, just well built. The Bosch has 1.5ah batteries the others (including the JCB) are 1.3ah, they do last a long time though. At the current price, this is the joint cheapest (along with the Dewalt). I've used the Dewalt and the Mikita at work, the Dewalt feels heavy and the Mikita doesn't feel as well built (still good just not quite as good as the JCB). I've used it with screws, drilling through wood and drilling into brick using the hammer function. All of which it did with ease. The JCB drill comes with a strong plastic lockable carry case, two 1.3ah lithium battery's, a charger, one multi ended screw driver bit (Phillips one end, the other slotted) and two instruction books. The drill has a light so when you pull the trigger you can see what your doing, great in confined/ dark corners. It also has a second detachable handle. It's worth noting that although the drill and accessories are covered by the 5 year warranty the battery's are only covered for 1 year (seams to be standard practice across manufactures). There are 2 speed settings, 20 torque settings, a drill setting and a hammer drill setting. It has a metal hand adjusted chuck and a forward, backward and lock setting. This really is a great drill and well worth the money. If you need a cordless drill this is a good buy.

Poor Batteries
1 Star Review   By zingaro on B&Q - Jun 2, 2014

I bought the 18V version about 2 years ago just for stuff around the house.Very little use, a fews drills in wood and a few screws. But, now both batteries are dead. Replacements I cannot find and when they were available they cost £60 each. I will have to buy a bosch.

Rubbish
1 Star Review   By Curly53 on B&Q - Mar 27, 2014

Not good at all, bought as a replacement for my B&D 18v cordless which was far superior. Battery life about 15-20mins then have to wait 3hrs to charge. Purchased in Feb & have used 3-4 times for various jobs - screw fixing, drilling in wood & brickwork (only drilled 3 holes for rawlplug on full battery), drill bit keeps coming lose, wire sander attachment - was able to use for 12mins on a full battery, before needing charging, I could go on. Taking it back - not fit for the purpose it was intended - sorry expected a lot better.

5 Star Review   By Wuffie on B&Q - Mar 10, 2014

Very surprised with the torque and the ease of use of this drill. Light and fits easily into the hand, plus the sighting light is a nice touch - thought it a gimmick at first, but it soon proved its worth, especially for those of us whose eyesight isn't so good nowadays. Overall a good buy !!!

Excellent Value for money, bought for use doing jobs in the warehouse, which there was many to do! Feels very solid and well built, comfortable to use for long periods of time, batteries have a good life when fully charged, lots of torque for a cordless drill and a 5 year guarantee. Would definitely recommend to someone looking to purchase a general use cordless drill.

1st Impressions
5 Star Review   By BtBertie on B&Q - Sep 8, 2013

This drill is a very well made solid tool, as the review is requested so soon after buying I have not put it through its paces fully yet. However the limited use has been without fault, the control is there for fine work and it handles in a very well for balance. The 5 year guarantee give a level of confidence of quality of build a swell. JCB may not have built it but it carries their brand and that's good enough for me.

Best cordless drill ever.
5 Star Review   By BandQnumber1fan on B&Q - Aug 15, 2013

Brilliant tool. Feels as though it will last for ever. The only niggle is that the LED light is only useful if the drill projects at least 150mm from the chuck face. With anything shorter the drill point is always in the shadow cast by the chuck.

Chuck is fatally flawed
1 Star Review   By Timmmm on B&Q - Jun 15, 2013

Exnavydavy mentioned that the chuck has no grip. This is not quite correct - you can put a bit in the chuck and it will grip it perfectly fine. *However* this drill has some kind of "safety stop" where it stops instantly (probably mashing some gears) when you release the trigger. This sudden stop and the momentum of the chuck cause it to undo itself. Seriously. Try this: Put a bit in the chuck, tighten it as much as you can. Now hold the drill pointing down with it in its highest gear. Fully press and release the trigger two or three times. The bit will simply fall out. Terrible design (I have no idea how other drills do this, but I've never noticed this problem before so presumably they do it differently!) I uploaded a video to demonstrate. Also, in the first gear it sounds fine, but in the second gear it is horribly rattly. I expect something is poorly fitting in there and will die soon.

First impressions are good
5 Star Review   By PhilDotC on B&Q - Mar 8, 2013

I bought the drill yesterday after reserving a Ryobi. When I got to the store and compared the drills I thought the JCB felt the better build. The max torque values are good soft/hard 35/50Nm. They should make more of this. As for batteries I have had a hunt around on the web and it turns out this drill is actually manufactured/imported by Positec Powertools (Europe) Ltd. The same people behind the Worx brand. Surprise, suprise the Worx 20V Li battery looks just the same as the JCB one. I'm not saying it is the same but it might be worth a look. They seem to be readily available in the USA. Not sure why they aren't over here.

Excellent drill
5 Star Review   By Bazspark on B&Q - Jan 25, 2013

Awesome bit of kit. Well made. Powerfull. Abit on the heavy side but I'll take the power and build quality anyday. You cant get batteries but tbh at this price just get another drill and have 2 drills, 2 chargers and 2 batteries :) My only gripe and its an easy one for JCB to sort is no belt hook. I never thought I needed one but if working outside and the ground is wet you cant put the drill down. Minor but annoying.

Works a treat
5 Star Review   By DrilllerKiller on B&Q - Nov 12, 2012

Had the 18v version until it was stolen. 18 months later and the 20v version is now half the price. Very good ergonomic drill that gave excellent use. I note now that the charger is different, the last one had reports of a few failures, so lets hope the new one is fine, even though it now takes 3 hours for a charge rather than 1 for the 18v. I've had many cordless drills, and the JCB really Is the best. Branded drill accessories aren't top quality but cheap enough to replace them when something is better called for. All in all, very happy.

Best make DRILL i ever owned and so handy for dark areas due to built in LED light and two long lasting batteries. VERY VERY POWERFULL and LIGHT for cordless drill and VERY VERY QUICK DRILL BITS CHANGE. Would not give this product a miss as very highly recommended and worth the price.

Brilliant
5 Star Review   By DanV on B&Q - Oct 12, 2012

Pros: Batteries last for ages. Fantastic for driving screws (almost too powerful) Really solid construction Metal chuck No need for a chuck key Really comfortable to hold Great as a cordless hammer drill Cons On mine, the chuck is ever so slightly out of alignment but I don't think it'll make any difference.

powerful but with one drawback
2 Star Review   By Exnavydavy on B&Q - Sep 2, 2012

This is an exceptionally good piece of kit, but just one thing wrong........the chuck.......no matter how tight you close it, it has no grip on drill bits....if using a magnetic holder for screw driving, after a while the chuck loosens off and the bit falls out.......this can be very annoying. I have only had my drill 9 days and the teeth in the chuck are now non existent......it is now going to be returned from whence it came....B&Q !!

Best Cordless I've Owned
5 Star Review   By diydaz74 on B&Q - Aug 22, 2012

I've been really impressed with this JCB Cordless Drill/Driver, having read some of the previous reviews I was confident that this would fit the bill & I haven't been disappointed. It has great power & control and has coped easily with all of my recent diy projects. Something that hasn't been mentioned in previous reviews is the side handle which has really been handy when working in tight spaces as you can get some extra pressure applied if needed. It also allows you to drill left (or right) handed if in confined spaces. Overall I am really chuffed with this purchase and would recommend to anyone, especially with the great price.

BRILL DRILL
5 Star Review   By TREX13 on B&Q - Aug 3, 2012

Bought this drill as a replacement for me ol' Ryobi. you will not find anything out there for this type of money that will compare to this item, here's a few details about drill that are not mentioned any where on the net, has all metal chuck ( proberly Manganise, look to pay at least twice this price for this option) also has a Fan cooled motor, and an electric brake, also has led work light. The Li-ion batterys are 1.3Ah capacity ( although these work well for such a powerful drill, it's still a bit on the weedy side as continual moderate to heavy use will only last about 30-40mins, but to be fair, that's flat out in low gear and drilling into ceramic tiles and hard brickwork) 1.5Ah or better would have been nice and the carger is abit slow 3hrs but you do have 2xbatterys. 5yr warrantee is also something you dont normally find ( but be aware only 1yr on batterys ) So there we are, good quality product, lots of Pro's, and few Con's. Overall can't be beaten, absolute bargain for the money!

Bought this drill as replacement for another make which had the bearings give up. It is a excellent drill, dont worry about other finding other batteries and long charging time, it comes with 2 batteries which last a long very long while and if you are on a big job you can charge the second battery as you carry on using the first. Good chuck, well made, the light is very handy, the additional handle can be easily adjusted or moved or removed if required. With 5 year guarantee, cannot be beaten.

Great Drill
5 Star Review   By JamesG on B&Q - Jun 9, 2012

I was looking for a good but cheap 18v drill fro DIY purposes. I found the Nicd Makita first of all, It's a very good drill. this was £10 more but had more power, more torque and better drill rating (Masonary 13mm for Makita 16mm for JCB) i have cut through masonary far better than mycheap mains drill. Top that off with Li Ion batteries and a 5 year guarantee and it's hard to recommend anything else. Has cut through masonary far better than a cheap mains drill i have been using until now

li-ion overcomes battery worries
5 Star Review   By Sparks68 on B&Q - Jun 3, 2012

Used this loads since purchased. although slower charge time the batteries should take approx 2000 charge cycles and with 2 batteries should last forever! Li-ion means can top charge up at any time and overcomes the memory effect associated with ni-cad batteries. Metal sleeved chuck and onboard light, this is packed with features normally only found on Dewalt. A great bit of kit.

3 Star Review   By conan on B&Q - May 8, 2012

this looks like a good drill well made and balanced well, i would give this 5 out of five but try finding a battery for it and it is impposible spent hours on the net even went to jcb themselfs and still can't find one so you buy the drill and use it until the batteries give up. and so that is why i gave it 3 stars only. shame.

5 Star Review   By Jonboy999 on B&Q - Apr 30, 2012

I considered lots of drills before deciding on this one, both cheaper & more expensive. I am not disappointed. Performance is spot-on. Li-ion is so much better than Ni-cad. A full 5 year guarantee as well, it just doesn't get any better.
